Why Do We Have To Be So Mean?

This is a question that has gone through my mind a million and one times in my life. I feel this question should go through everyone’s mind at least once. Why is it that we feel the need to give people our opinion on everything? I myself am an extremely opinionated person, and even I know when it’s just plain none of my business. What happened to “If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all”?

Now, to clarify, I’m not saying that you shouldn’t speak up when you feel wronged. By all means, if a store or business is rude to you, say something. Corporate can’t fix problems they don’t know exist.

If someone you know posts a picture, saying how they feel pretty today, would you comment and say, “Actually your hair looks like crap, and you should really start losing weight”? No, of course not, and why would you? So why do these same sane people then see a picture of someone they don’t know and think it’s okay to posts these things on their pictures? What is the point? That’s my question. What are you getting out of this? No repercussions? Do you think about the fact that now, when that person looks in the mirror, all they are going to see are your words staring back at them?

Don’t try to tell me that people should have thicker skin, either. Thick skin has nothing to do with it. It’s all about a persons subconscious mind. That part of our minds can not take a joke. Period. It isn’t able to differentiate insults. So, now, the next time you call some random person ugly, fat, stupid, any of that, think about how long that is going to be stuck in their head.

We all complain and whine about making the world a better place. “I don’t wanna live on this planet anymore.” All you have to do is make it a better planet. The only problem is that it has to be all of you. I’m doing my part.

Are you doing your part?
